Bengaluru: While a lot of negative aspects of the ruling class get highlighted in the media, it is quite sad that good things done occasionally remain backstage.

Khader stopping over and enquiring about the mishap

Minister of health and family welfare U T Khader has gone on record in the past by swinging into action in emergencies like road mishaps or natural calamities.

Although there are critics who say that he does it for publicity, such persons would not do any such thing in similar circumstances, say some of his close associates.

He proved his concern for the common man yet again in Kolar. Since he is the minister in charge of Kolar district, he was on his way to attend a meeting on May Day last week.

A two-wheeler belonging to a worker on the way to the event had hit the median and he was lying on the road bleeding and in a critical condition.

As Khader’s car was passing by, he noticed the crowd and stopped by to enquire what it was about. As no one was willing to do anything, Khader got the victim put in his car. When the ambulance arrived, the patient was shifted into it. The minister got him admitted to Jalappa hospital.

He verified the identity of the person and came to know that he hailed from a boundary region between Karnataka and Andhra. He obtained his family’s phone number and informed the victim’s father about his having been admitted to the said hospital.

He also admonished the escort staff for ignoring the mishap and driving ahead without concern. He told them to serve the people first and then others.

His gesture was widely appreciated by the people of Kolar, although the news did not get the exposure it needed.
