Bengaluru: Why does the man threaten to marry off young lovers found together on Valentine’s Day every year? Many had already guessed that since he had remained a bachelor until now, he tended to be harsh to those in love.

An authoritative explanation on Sri Rama Sene leader Pramod Muthalik has come Chandrashekhar Patil, Kannada writer, poet and critic – better known by his pen-name ChamPaa –  who claims to have heard it straight from the horse’s mouth.

Speaking at the function to mark the release of a Kannada book – ‘Preeti Nalvattu Reeti’, literally Love of 40 Kinds  – Patil made a reference to Muthalik and said that he was being denied a bride just like it had happened to the Rakshasas in Puranas.

Patil revealed that he had once asked Muthalik himself about his having remained a bachelor. He had replied that after marriage the brides were likely to be poisoned, hanged or burnt and he did not like it.

Patil added that although Muthalik belonged to the ‘chaddi’ camp, he had enjoyed good rapport with him. When Patil had asked him why he did all that instead of getting married, Muthalik had replied that he still had chances of getting married.

Patil further said that he was looking for a suitable bride for Muthalik and requested the audience to reommend a proper match.

Patil also said that Muthalik was too busy running around to marry off lovers. If anyone could find a suitable match for him, he (Patil) himself would oversee the marriage rituals, he assured.
