Best Results in Mangaluru! 11 students of Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL) Mangaluru to be awarded the KVPY Fellowship 2019. Pranav Rao and Druhan Rajiv Shah bag AIR 70 & 78 respectively in the general category.
Mangaluru: 11 students of Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL), Mangalore have been selected for Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) fellowships for 2019-20 in the general category. Among the 11 students, two students Pranav Rao (II PUC) and Druhan Shah (I PUC) have secured AIR 70 & 78 respectively, making it the best results in Mangalore. What makes the feat really special is that all the students have secured the KVPY fellowships in the general category.
The students will be awarded with scholarships ranging from Rs 80,000 to Rs 1,12,000 per annum to continue their education in the basic Science stream. They also stand a chance to study in top educational institutes in the country. The award of KVPY fellowship is based on the marks obtained by the candidate: 75 % of the marks in the Aptitude Test + 25 % of the marks in the Interview. About 1,500 students from all over the country in each category were selected for the final interview this year.
5 students in the SA category and 6 students in the SX category respectively are been selected from CFAL. SA, SX and SB are the 3 streams under which KVPY is conducted. Stream SA: The students studying in class 11 (Science Subjects) choose Stream SA and students studying in Class 12 (Science Subjects) choose Stream SX while appearing for KVPY Exam. The students studying in first year of any undergraduate program choose Stream SB. CFAL has a progressive record of nurturing Kishore Vaigyani Scholars year after year with highest percentage, selections and ranks and the students have consistently attained the top ranks in Mangalore. They have 78 KVPY scholars, the highest in Dakshina Kannada District. Prominent among them are Sumith (AIR – 7 in 2013-14), Kenrick Pinto (AIR – 16 in 2015-16), Prathyush Poduval (AIR -7 in 2017-18), Vishnu Bharadwaj (AIR – 35 in 2018-19), Shreyas Pai (AIR – 68, 2018-19).
About KVPY:
The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), one of the most prestigious examinations conducted in India is initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The objective of this exam is to identify students with talent and aptitude for research; help them realize their academic potential; encourage them to take up research careers in Basic Science, and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country. These examinations require analytical skills and logical thinking- rote learning or memorization will not yield results.
Aptitude Test: After scrutiny of application forms and meeting the eligibility criteria for various streams, all eligible students will be called for aptitude test conducted both in Hindi and English at different centres across the country, in the month of October/ November each year. Based on their performance in this written examination, students with the highest scores are called for interview. After the interview the selected students are declared as “KISHORE VAIGYANI “and they are eligible for this National Level Fellowship.
Besides receiving a scholarship of Rs. 80,000/- to Rs.1,12,000/- per annum as fellowship, these students are also entitled to several other benefits- They get direct admission to institutions that specialize in Basic Sciences, they can attend study camps organized by various scientific institutions and can attend lectures and workshops of renowned scientists. Besides this, an I.D. card is provided to them which gives them access to various prestigious Laboratories, Libraries, scientific and research institutions throughout the country.
