Bhajans, Cleaning drives mark Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations in Udupi
Udupi: Programmes by the district administration and various political parties to remember the Father of the Nation through bhajans and cleaning activities marked Gandhi Jayanti in Udupi on Monday, October 2.
The district administration, Udupi City Municipal Council and the District Information and Broadcasting department organised the district – level Gandhi Jayanti celebrations at Ajjarkadu Bhujanga Park.
Pramod Madhwaraj district minister in-charge along with Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje president Udupi CMC, Anuradha Additional deputy commissioner Udupi district garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and paid floral tributes to the father of the nation.
Meanwhile, minister Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated the cleanliness drive at the Malpe beach which was organised by the Scouts and Guides. The minister garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the Malpe beach. Bhajans were sung by members of various organisations in front of the statue.
The district BJP unit organised the cleanliness drive in the City and service bus-stands of Udupi. The district BJP president Mattar Rathnakar Hegde along with BJP leaders, Geethanjali Suvarna, Yashpal Suvarna, Shilpa Suvarna, Veena Shetty, Shreesha Nayak and others cleaned the bus-stand using water. Participants of the drive were enthusiastic in collecting the garbage and cleaning the bus-stand premises.
