‘Bharatanatyam Rangapravesha’ by Kum Dhanyashree Prabhu at Town Hall, 6 Aug
Mangaluru: Vidwan B Deepak Kumar running his own dance institution Sri Mookambika Cultural Academy (R.) in Puttur where he is nurturing many talents in the classical field, and has organized many Bharatanatyam dances in DK and other parts of India, is now choreographing yet another show named ‘Bharatanatyam Rangapravesh’ at Town Hall-Mangaluru.
Deepak’s skill in choreography is borne out by many of his students having won prizes and awards in different competitions and festivals all over India. His wife, Preetikala who is also a Bharatanatyam dancer supports her husband in all the sections of dance and music in order to enhance the reputation of their institution Sri Mookambika Cultural Academy. He is also assisted by his mother and brother in teaching, costume designing and all other related activities required by the institution. They have rare skill of being able to design and stitch their own costumes, which is rare to see among the dancers of today.
And for all those who are lovers of Bharatnatyam, the forthcoming dance show named “Bharatanatyam Rangapravesha’ performed by Kum. Dhanyashree Prabhu, hailing from Karkala, and choreographed by renowned Vidwan B Deepak Kumar, is one show that you don’t want to miss. The announcement of this dance performance at Town Hall-Mangaluru on 6 August 2017 at 5.30 pm was made by Vidwan Deepak during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, in the presence of Dhanyashree, and her parents-Ramganesh Prabhu and Shubhalakshmi Prabhu who were seated on the dais.
About Kum. ‘Dhanyashree Prabhu – a brief profile:
Kum. Dhanyashree Prabhu, daughter of Ramganesh Prabhu and Shubhalakshmi Prabhu had great passion towards Bharatanatyam and was initiated into this divine art form at the tender age of Five under the guidance of first guru Vidushi Smt.Vidya Manoj whose constant motivation and encouragement has groomed her into a fine dancer. She has given nearly 100 stage performances in various places of Karnataka. Some of the prestigious venues are Karavali Utsav Mangaluru, Sadashiva Temple of Narahari Hill, Belthangady, Bantwal, Puttur etc. She has given quite a number of solo performances on various occasions. Continuing her dance pursuits under Vidya Manoj, Dhanya has passed Bharatanatyam Junior and Senior Grade Examinations with a distinction conducted by Karnataka Secondary Education Board.
At present she is undergoing training for Vidwat grade under the able guidance of Aryabhata and Rashtreeya Ratna Awardee Vidwan B.Deepak Kumar, Director of Sri Mookambika Cultural Academy(R.) Puttur whose teaching efforts and words of encouragement has truly moulded and shaped Dhanya into a promising dancer and led her to deepen her passion for Bharatanatyam to such an extent that she wants to make a unique mark in this great art form and take it to a professional level in her life. Dhanyashree completed her schooling from SVS Vidyagiri, Bantwal and currently studying 3rd year B.Pharm at Srinivas College of Pharmacy, Valachil, Mangaluru.
Apart from Bharatanatyam, Dhanyashree has excelled in other co-curricular activities like Karnatic music, drawing, chess, guitar etc. She has also completed her Junior Examination in Karnatic music under the guidance of Yathiraj Acharya of B.C.Road. She is pursuing the art of playing guitar under Simon Pais at Swaranjali, Mangaluru and drawing under late Sathish Melkar and Sooryakanth.
Right from her school days, Dhanya has won many prizes in different sections. She was selected for Kalashree Award conducted by Women and Child Welfare Programme in 2012. She has participated in state level drawing competition conducted by Karnataka Pragathipara Yojane Mandya 2008, competitions conducted by JCI Bantwal and has won prizes. She has also participated in International Science and Maths Talent Exams by ICETC.
