Bhatkal: A 78 percent record polling was reported in the prestigious educational institution Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen, Bhatkal which was held at Islamia Anglo Urdu High School hall on Sunday, May 24.
Polling began at 9 am and ended at 5 pm. 23 members will be elected out of the 60 candidates for the executive body.
Calling the turnout in Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen Bhatkal election as “historic and unprecedented”, Election Commissioner Mohsin Kharuri thanked the Anjuman members for coming out in large numbers to vote and for ensuring a peaceful election.
He said that 493 voters practiced their voting rights out of 629 members. He also clarified that the Anjuman Executive body comprises 87 members, which consists of 12 patrons, 14 members residing outside Bhatkal (within India) and 25 NRI members.
Counting of the votes will be held on Monday, May 25 and will begin at 9 am. Around 70% polling was recorded in the last election held in 2011.
