Bike Riders Injured as Oil Oozes on Road near Jyothi, Mayor Acts Swiftly to Clear mess
Mangaluru: Many bikes skidded injuring riders as oil from the sewage oozed onto the road on Balmatta road here on September 18.
One of the eyewitnesses Shekhar said, “When I was walking on the Balmatta road, I found some red colour liquid on the road. First I thought it was blood but when I was walking further I realized that some kind of oil was oozing out from the drainage. Many bike riders fell on the road unable to control their bikes at the spot. The traffic on the Balmatta road was disrupted for some time. The traffic police acted swiftly and cleared the traffic. Mayor Kavitha Sanil also reached the spot. Immediately getting into action, she ordered the concerned authorities to clear the mess. Because of many hotels in this area, the used oil is drained into the drainage which has created this problem today.”
Speaking to mangalorean.com Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, “As soon as I received the call about oil oozing out from the drainage onto the road, I rushed to the spot along with the engineers and other staff. I immediately deployed three vehicles to clear the blockage in the drainage. As there are many hotels in the area, used oil is discharged into the drainage, this oil does not mix with water and has caused this problem out from the drainage pit.”
Mayor Kavitha further said, “I have instructed the concerned authorities to issue notices to the hotel owners to stop discharging used oil into the drainage. The Hotel owners should understand the problems and stop the discharge of oil into the drainage. Now we have cleared the blockage and the problem has been solved.”
Executive Engineer Maralahalli, AE Vishalnath, JE Raghupal, and team carried out the work efficiently and cleared the mess.
