Bilagi, Vaishali and Uma Flag off Legal Literacy Chariot and Mobile Court  Campaign

Mangaluru:  The Principal District and Sessions Judge K S Bilagi along with DCP of Crime and Traffic Uma Prashant and ADC Vaishali flagged off the ‘Legal Literacy Chariot and Mobile Court Campaign’ at the District Court premises here, on May 27.

The chariot will tour the district from May 27 for four days and spread awareness to the public about the law and various institutions to seek justice. It will also promote solutions for trivial cases with the application of a mutual compromise between the disputed parties rather than going into a lengthy judicial process.

After flagging off the ‘Legal Literacy Chariot and Mobile Court Campaign’, K S Bilagi said, “Law is an integral part of our lives and everyone should be aware of it. In everyone’s life, law is important. If you spend more, you have to pay GST; if you save, you need to pay tax; if you buy or sell; you need to pay tax. So we need to bring awareness among the public about these laws. Today, advocates are demanding health cards for themselves and their families. So the health department will have more work. If our health is good and when we maintain good physical and mental health, everything will go on well.”

ADC Vaishali speaking on the occasion said that ignorance of law has no excuse. “Law is an integral part of our lives and we all should know the law of the land. This programme has been launched for a purpose, so let it reach all the people. I wish the organizers all the very best,” she added.

DCP of Crime and Traffic Uma Prashant said, “There is no exemption for not knowing the law. All the departments should work with integrity and provide justice. If we talk more, some say we need to understand the law before talking. Whatever happens in our lives depends on the law. If we understand the laws, we can serve in every department. There are many instances where a lay person has misinterpreted the proceedings of a court. It is not uncommon, as without proper awareness it is very easy to interpret judicial matters in a wrong way. I hope this chariot serves its purpose and provides the common man with the right awareness on vital judicial matters”.

President of the Bar Association M R Ballal also spoke on the occasion. Advocate Dinakar Shetty delivered the vote of thanks. Senior Civil Judge Mallana Gowda welcomed the gathering.

DHP Dr Ramakrishna, Information officer Khader Shah, Y Shivaramayya, Nagaraj, Sundar Poojary and others were also present.
