Bishop Dr Aloysius Conveys Christmas Messages – Save Water, Save Earth, go green
Mangaluru: “In the Diocese of Mangalore, water harvesting and increasing the ground water levels, protecting the environment and go green environment is the motto and will be carried throughout the year 2017. Jesus Christ was born in a clean, serene and peaceful atmosphere. This year we are celebrating Christmas with the theme of ‘Save water, save earth, go green”, said the Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza in his Christmas message, during a press meet held at the Bishop’s house Kodialbail here on December 23.
PRO Fr William Menezes welcomed the gathering. Bishop Aloysius cut the cake and celebrated Christmas with the media representatives. Addressing the mediapersons Dr Aloysius said, “Jesus Christ was born in a manger surrounded by domestic animals in a small village named Bethlehem in the town of Jerusalem. Being born in a family surrounded by clean, non-polluted environment Jesus Christ taught his followers to be free from all types of uncleanliness and become pure both within and outside of themselves. The teachings of Jesus are relevant even to this day”.
He also said, In our compound at Kodialbail water harvesting is initiated for both the bore well and the open well and the compound looks lush green with plants and trees. Moreover, the Churches and Institutes under the Diocese of Mangaluru are instructed to take up seriously the water harvesting and nurturing greenery.”
Bishop further said that he will send a circular to all the Parish Priests and heads of the Institutions requesting them to instruct their faithful to discourage them from using fireworks during festivities and celebrations in order to protect the nature from noise and air pollution.
The Bishop has taken up the construction of St Joseph Vaz Home; a home for the retired priests of the Diocese of Mangaluru which will be beautified with greenery and planting saplings of a variety of fruits and vegetables.
Msgr Denis Prabhu, Vicar General, Chancellor Fr Henry Sequeira, M P Noronha Secretary Diocesan Pastoral Parishad and Marcel Monteiro were also present. Raymond D’Cunha compered the programme.
