Mangaluru: Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza inaugurated a water purifier to provide free drinking water to the public at the Bishop’s House, Kodialbail here, on March 14.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Aloysius said, “Pope has declared the year 2016 as the ‘year of mercy’ and accordingly we have decided to provide basic free drinking water to the public. We have also built 25 houses in Chennai, for the flood affected people at a cost of Rs 1.5 lakh per house.”
The cost of the drinking water project exceeds Rs 50,000 and is open to all without any discrimination. Secretary of Diocese Council, MP Noronha said, “This is a very noble cause and we hope to see similar facilities come up in other institutions.”
Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu, Diocese Chancellor, Henry Sequeira, William Menezes and others were also present.
