Bishop Inaugurates State-of-the-Art Remodeled ‘Birthing Unit’ at Fr Muller Hospital

Mangaluru: A birthing unit offers women the choice to birth in a relaxed, comfortable, ‘home from home’ environment. If you have a low risk, uncomplicated pregnancy you will be offered the option of birthing your baby in the birthing unit. The care on the birthing unit is provided by a team of obstetricians/anesthetists/pediatricians and nurses. So, when you find out you’re pregnant, you will need to think about where you’d like to have your baby. There are many options, including a Birthing Unit. And if your choice is for a Birthing Unit, you now have a New State-of-the-Art “Birthing Unit’ just launched at Father Muller Hospital, Kankanady-Mangaluru.

The Remodeled State-of-the-Art Birthing Unit was inaugurated by the President of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI), His Excellency Rev. Fr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese on 1 November 2019. The 15 thousand square feet complex housed in the Father Muller Medical College Hospital has Four OT’s (including a minor procedure room), a special suite room with delivery room and bystander room, three special care rooms, six delivery suite rooms, a facility for pre-delivery, ultrasound facility, NST, Partogram, postoperative recovery rooms.

The fully spacious, ultramodern birthing unit also includes a fully-fledged baby resuscitation unit with baby warmers and ventilation facilities. There is the availability of the high dependency unit for high-risk patients built like a sub ICU. Round the clock facilities are available for the duty doctors and food and medicine facilities are made available for patients. The new facility will bring in the joys of parenthood with comfort and care for which the institution stands for.

The welcome address for the inaugural ceremony of Birthing Unit and OT Complex was delivered by Fr Richard Coelho-Director of FMCI, followed by the inauguration by cutting the ribbon by the Bishop, joined by other dignitaries. Following a short prayer service conducted by the Bishop, He then went around the Unit blessing it with Holy water. In his address, Bishop said, “Through the works of our hand and the help of technology we should cooperate with the creator to improve the Earth as the dwelling place of the human family. By our efforts to bring the work of creation to perfection, we contribute to the advancement of society and carry out Jesus Christ’s mandate to follow him in serving one another in love”.

“As this state-of-the-art Birthing Unit along with OT Complex is launched toady, we should praise the Almighty God, so that he guides and blesses all those who work here, and take care of the expecting mothers with comfort, by following FMCI motto “Heal and Comfort”. For women who are expecting their newborn child, this birthing unit may be the best choice, and with professional staff, minimal medical interruptions and cosy accommodations, this unit will be the best of both worlds for many women. Let us also ask the Lord Our god to bless all the doctors, technicians, nurses and other personnel who will be working in this facility” added Bishop.

Rev. Fr Rudolph DSa briefed the gathering on the facilities available in the renovated Birthing unit, Administrator FMMC, Rev Fr Ajith Menezes presented the vote of thanks while Asst Administrator FMMCH, Fr Nelson Pais compered the event. Dr Nagaratna G., Prof and HOD dept of OBG presented a memento to the Bishop and Director of FMCI. A large number of well-wishers and hospital staff graced the occasion.
