BJP has no moral Rights to be in Power – Lobo during Protest against Rape Culture
Mangaluru: The All India Congress Committee called for a nationwide protest against the rape culture in BJP ruled states. The Congress party workers from Mangaluru South staged a protest demanding justice to the rape victims of Unnao and Kathua in front of the DC office here on April 17.
A one minute silence was observed for the soul of 8-year-old rape and murder victim in Kathua.
Addressing the protesters J R Lobo said, “It is the prime duty of the government to provide safety and security for the citizens especially women and girls. If the government cannot provide safety and security for women and girls, such a government has no moral right to be in power. In Kathua an 8-year-old girl was brutally raped for four days and killed. The BJP MLA supported the accused and staged a protest when the accused were arrested. The Prime minister did not take any action against the BJP MLA. What moral right does he have to rule the country where there is no safety for women and girls under his government”.
J R Lobo further said, “In Unnao, a girl was gang-raped by a BJP MLA, his brother and his friends. Her father was tortured in the police station where he died. But no action has been taken against the MLA by the Chief Minister of UP or the prime minister. The CM of UP has no moral rights to be in power as he cannot take action against the MLA in the rape case. If such a situation had happened in the Congress-ruled state, the BJP leaders would have protested and shouted climbing on the rooftops but now all the BJP leaders have maintained silence.”
DCC President Harish Kumar said, “The incident that happened in Kathua is shocking, an 8-year-old girl was gang-raped and brutally murdered. We condemn the heinous crime. When the accused were arrested in this case, the BJP minister staged a protest in favour of the accused. Which direction is our country heading? If the ministers themselves indulge in such crimes, who will provide safety and security for the people?”
Harish Kumar further said, “We are not safe under the BJP rule, we have to tolerate the Prime minister for one more year. The Dalits have been tortured and their rights snatched through the court. There is no safety for women and girls. The BJP has also failed to fulfil its promises made during the elections.”
Senior Congress leaders Ibrahim Kodijal, Kallige Taranath Shetty, Appi, Vinayraj, Praveenchandra Alva, Salim, Vishwas Das and others were also present.
