BJP Luring Voters of Graduates and Teachers Constituencies with Gifts – Ivan D’Souza

Udupi: MLC Ivan D’Souza accused the BJP of luring voters of the South West Graduates and Teachers constituencies with gifts to get their support for the biennial elections to the legislative council slated to be held on June 8.

Addressing the media persons at a press meet held at the district Congress office on June 2, Ivan said, BJP candidates of both the constituencies are offering bags and other gifts to the voters. He appealed to the election commission of India to take action against such candidates.

The Congress party was working towards winning the South-West Graduates and South-West Teachers constituencies of the Legislative Council, which are due for elections on June 8. “Our candidates were defeated by a slender margin in the last elections. We hope to win both the seats,” he said.

He said that the Congress candidate from the teachers constituency K K Manjunath Kumar is aware of the woes of teachers as he has served as a teacher for many years. So, his selection is appropriate and he would be able to provide justice to the teachers.

Congress nominee for the graduates’ constituency S P Dinesh has been responding to the woes of graduates by establishing graduates co-operative society for the past several years. He appealed to the voters to back candidates of the Congress in both the constituencies.

Speaking on the occasion, Congress candidate from South West teacher’s constituency K K Manjunath promised that he would address the woes of teachers serving in aided and unaided educational institutes if he is elected. Teachers serving in aided educational institutes are not covered under the new pension scheme and thus injustice has been meted out to them.

District Congress Spokespersons Bhaskar Rao Kidiyoor, NSUI district president Christan D’Almeida, CDC member Prashanth Jathanna, Congress leaders Michael Ramesh D’Souza, Shivaji Suvarna Belle, Melwin D’Souza, Robert D’Souza, Mohammed Farooq, AC Jayaraj were present.
