BJP has no Moral Rights to Demand Khader’s resignation in Zubair Murder – Ivan D’Souza

Mangaluru: “Whenever there is communal violence or murder the Congress party has always condemned it. The Congress also condemns the brutal murder of Zubair in Mukkacheri. It is the duty of the government to provide protection to the people of the state. The Congress party has taken such issues seriously and punished the culprits. We have also taken strict action on those delivering inciting speeches. When there are murders due to enmity, death in communal incidents, accidents or personal reasons, BJP, especially MP Nalin should not play politics. MP Nalin has said that Congress dealing in drug trading and doing business. BJP is demanding the resignation of Minister Khader but BJP has no morality to demand U T Khader’s resignation,” said the Chief Whip, Ivan D’Souza in a press meet held at the District Congress Office here on October 7.

Addressing the mediapersons Ivan said, “To curb illegal activities, and drug peddling a special squad has been formed but without the cooperation of the people it is difficult. The police commissioner and the SP should take strict action against those involved in drug peddling, and illegal liquor sale in petty shops. To find out main persons involved in the drug trade, the Home Minister should send a special squad to Mangaluru and the borders of Dakshina Kannada. The Home Minister should send an expert team immediately to Dakshina Kannada to trace the Kingpins in the trade of drugs and take stern action. What the police are doing at present is not enough since prohibited drugs are freely available in petty shops, hotels etc.”

Ivan further said, “Zubair’s family is in poverty and the opposition is demanding Rs 40 lakh. The government is sanctioning Rs 5 lakh for those who die of unnatural causes. I request the Deputy Commissioner to coordinate with the government and immediately release the compensation of Rs 5 lakh to Zubair’s family. The police commissioner has said that three teams have been formed to nab Zubair’s killers and already the accused have been identified. The reason for Zubair’s murder is due to enmity. I urge the police to find out the root cause of Zubair’s murder. I also request the BJP leaders not to give political colour to this murder. The BJP is a national party and MP Nalin is part of the government. Dakshina Kannada being a communally sensitive district the MP has a responsibility of maintaining communal harmony in the district and not give communal or political colour to such incident.”

Ivan also said, “U T Khader is a most secular person and is very active in his work. He is the best minister in the council of the state. When Karthik was murdered the BJP put allegations on U T Khader and said that the killers had come from Kerala and killed Karthik. Even the MP had threatened of setting the district on fire if Karthik’s killers were not arrested. Yeddyurappa had also blamed Khader. When the BJP realized that Karthik’s own sister was involved in the murder, they shut their mouth. The reason for Zubair’s murder is also personal enmity, but the BJP is giving political colour and blaming U T Khader. Why should Khader resign? MP Nalin should resign because when there was section 144 in place in Kalladka, he had violated the section and took part in the protest. When the BJP workers were arrested during Mangaluru Chalo, Nalin had threatened the police inspector on duty. Why is he not resigning from his post? Even in the death of a person, the BJP is playing politics. I strongly condemn the allegations against U T Khader. Even though we are of different parties, whenever there is murder we should unite and fight against the anti-social elements. We should strengthen the police department to curb the murders, drug peddling, and illegal activities.”
When asked about taking the initiative to bring changes in the law to punish drug peddlers and mafias, Ivan said, “Those who are involved in consuming, selling and peddling drugs should be severely punished. We have already started creating awareness. I have also raised this question in the assembly. The Government and schools should create awareness among the people. The police should go to every school and bring awareness among the students. We will try our best to bring changes in the law. There is a need to amend the law to punish drug dealers and in the coming days we will have discussions in this regard.”
Corporator Ashok D K, Sahul Hameed, Abu Backer and Nazir Bazal were also present.
