Blocked Applications under Housing Scheme can be Uploaded – Minister Khader
Mangaluru: “Under the Rajeev Gandhi Housing scheme, due to some technical reasons, 69000 houses were blocked. Some beneficiaries said that they had put the foundation but have not received funds from the government. Some others said that they wanted to continue the construction work so we had given them 11 days time to upload the documents and 18000 people uploaded the documents. Out of the 18000 we have rejected some applications because of duplication. If anyone has not yet uploaded the documents, they should meet the PDO of their gram panchayat. The PDO’s should go and verify the documents, if the PDO will give the right information and the application is genuine we will release the block to the particular person and if the PDO will give wrong information he will be held responsible”, said the District Minister In-charge U T Khader in a press meet held at the Circuit House here on September 23.
Addressing the media person Khader said, “Income validation is not necessary for the old houses which have already been sanctioned. For the new applications, there will be income validation. Earlier beneficiaries were getting 450 sq ft houses but now the government increased it to 750 sqft. This year under the housing scheme we are aiming to construct 4 lakh houses. Earlier our focus was on rural housing. This time we will concentrate on Urban housing along with rural housing. In Mangaluru and Ullal we will construct G+14. In Ullal, we will demolish the Ashraya site and construct G+13, 60% single bedroom and 40% double bedroom flats. There is no subsidy for double bedroom flats. We are also planning to give housing facilities to the journalists.”
Khader further said, “In the city-level, the local bodies should identify government land and select the beneficiaries through the selection committee so that housing is provided to the deserving applicants. If anyone interested to construct houses under the housing scheme the government is ready for 50/50 partnership. Earlier when it was 60/40 the landowners were not showing any interest for a joint venture, but now many have come forward for the housing scheme under 50/50 partnership and the Home ministry has agreed for the joint development.”
U T Khader also said, “Our government is stable, the opposition cannot digest the success of the projects undertaken by our government. BJP had demanded to waive the farmers’ loan within a week and our government has done it. The government has also smoothly handled the natural calamity situation in Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada district. The BJP is greedy for power and showing its culture but they will not be successful in their mission”.
Need to solve Sand problem in Kerala
Since the Kerala government has banned sand mining it has led to problems in Dakshina Kannada. In DK we get one load of sand for Rs 4000 but the same sand, if sold in Kerala, will fetch Rs 40,000. We need to find a permanent solution to the sand problem. The sand that comes from Malaysia should be directly sent to Kerala by installing GPS in trucks. If the sand coming from Malaysia goes directly to Kerala we can solve the sand problem in our district. On September 24, a meeting has been called by the Chief Minister and he will discuss this issue with the DC and the officers of the mines and Geology department.”
