Blood, Sweat & Tears! A Bloody & Dramatic Finish of the State Muaythai Championships in City

Mangaluru: I haven’t seen a fight anything like this one before, and I bet many of the Mangaloreans either- where nearly seventy fighters stepped into the ring to gain a new experience in Muay Thai kickboxing to see if they have what it takes to win- and it was a fun-filled day of entertainment for many Mangaloreans, who saw such kind of “Fight Sport” for the first time, making one of their memorable and rewarding event of their life. Some of the fights ended in a

The Muay Thai fights between two fighters was roared on by a thrilled crowd of spectators as they went on toe-to-toe in the makeshift ring- it was an explosive battle. While one fighter who comes out of the traps quickest, laying combinations on his rival that eventually see him fall to the ground- the fallen fighter gets back to his feet before continuing the fight. Tit-for-tat, then it proves to be a masterful stroke as the fallen fighter mounts an unlikely comeback to land a head kick on the opponent that sends him sprawling to the ground for a knockout win. Evidently it proves that the little guy was pretty tough, and frankly speaking among all the sport fights, this is one of them I reckon. Well done to both contestants, good hard fight.

When it comes to Muay Thai fighting, anything can happen in the ring. Regardless of how the fight ends, you have no chance in this fight and get your first taste- Not all fights that go the distance are bloody wars. This Championship saw some surprises and disappointment among the fighters- those who were anticipating for a big win lost, and those amateur fighters thought they would lose, surprisingly won, after putting all their efforts and hard work. After all in a sport, participation is more important than winning- and this what we all saw in this Muaythai Championship.

At this tournament, there were professional fighters as well as first-time fighters. Making the transition from Muay Thai novice to Muay Thai fighter is a dramatic leap, for some, it comes very naturally, they’ll discover a true passion for the sport and continue to fight. While for others, they will enter the ring and realize perhaps they aren’t really cut out for fighting even though they put in the hours of training and look great on the pads, fighting is a completely different kettle of fish and it’s not for everyone. Whatever the outcome, many of the First Timers who decided to fight to focus on enjoying the overall experience rather than winning their first fight, ‘just did their best’!

After a long day from morning till evening, where nearly 70 fighters fought for supremacy, the event ended in a Bloody and Dramatic note- and it was one of the superb fight sport that many enjoyed in their lifetime. The judges/coaches did a great job in selecting the right winners, without any complaints from the participants whatsoever. With lots of cheering from the audience for their favorite fighter inside the ring to win, but sometimes they were disappointed when their idol was knocked down by the opponent. Oh well, in a sport- one has to lose for sure.

The valedictory of this Karnataka State Muaythai Championship was held on Sunday 7 October at 7 pm, where MP Nalin Kumar Kateel was the chief guest, joined by other dignitaries on the dais namely- K Bhasker- MCC Mayor; Minister U T Khader; MLA Vedavyas Kamath; MLC Ivan D’souza; Advocate Raghavendra Rao- Legal Adviser for the Association; and many well-wishers and close friends of Rtn Rajgopal Rai- the President of MuayThai Association of Karnataka. Addressing the gathering MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, “It is indeed a proud moment for Mangaluru to introduce and also organize a state level Muaythai Championship. I will surely see that this sport gets a support from the Central government, as there is much support for Karate, as a self-defence sport. So why not also make MuayThai which is also a self-defence sport, a popular and much-needed art of self defence in India. My sincere and best wishes to everyone behind this great sport, and to Rtn Rajgopal Rai, and his two sons Sachin and Bipin Rai, along with their colleague Nithesh Kumar”.

Even though Minister U T Khader, MLC Ivan D’souza and MLA Vedavyas Kamath didn’t show up in time for the closing ceremony and prize distribution time, but they did show up at their convenience, and expressed their thoughts and compliments to the organizers. The winners in the various categories were presented with medals and certificates by various dignitaries present on the dais, to the loud applaud from the cheering audience. The programme was compered by Dr Nandakishore Rao and Ms Manisha Ballal. Kudos to the organizers for a great sporting event that ROCKED and SHOCKED Mangaluru!

In conclusion, in my perspective- When it comes to competition, there is only winning and learning. Regardless of the outcome of a fight (unless you quit), you will gain valuable experience that will make you better for your next fight. People often get caught up in the hype of winning and losing. While it may look great on paper having an undefeated record, if the best fighters in this Championship from all over the Karnataka State have all suffered dozens of losses, you shouldn’t feel bad when you lose. Losing will often make you stronger because it will show you areas of your game you need to improve on. Sometimes when you only win you become overconfident and don’t look for areas to improve after the fight. Remember that fighting is about gaining experience, so don’t get to hung up on the results. Focus on the process and constantly make improvements after every fight and you will keep on improving your game. Until then
