Boat Missed! Four Kerala Tourists spend Night at St Mary’s Island

Udupi: After missing the boat four tourists from Kerala including a woman had to spend the night at St Mary’s Island, Malpe on November 23.

The stranded tourists are identified as Justin (34), Sheeja (33), Josh (28) and Harish (17) residents of Kochi. They were found on November 24 and sent to their native place.

According to the Malpe Police, Justin and Sheeja are running a hotel in Cochin, and Josh is working there. Harish is a 17-year-old goalkeeper of the Cochin Football Academy.

All the four had travelled by train from Kerala to Goa on November 21 and had visited some of the places. They had arrived at Malpe on 23 afternoon and visited the St Mary’s Island by a boat belonging to the Malpe Development Committee.

All the four had spent some time at the St Mary’s Island and moved to a nearby island. In the evening when the water level increased, they were unable to return to the St Marys Island. The last boat which came to Island picked up the tourists and left to Malpe. The four of them tried to contact the Malpe Development committee but failed. All the four then had to spend the night at St Mary’s Island.

On Sunday, November 24 morning the boat which went to drop the tourists found the four stranded tourists at the St Mary’s Island, they took them to the shore and reported the matter to the Malpe police. All the four were taken to the Malpe police station where they were questioned. After checking their boat ticket, railway ticket and ID cards the police allowed them to return to their native place.
