Mangaluru: An unidentified person had jumped off the Jeppinamogaru-Ullal bridge across Netravati on the Edapalli-Panvel national highway around 12-15 pm on Friday.

He had left his sandals on the bridge. As passersby and pedestrians noticed him jump down, there was commotion all over. Vehicles stopped in the middle of the road, as everyone got curious. The traffic block prevailed for a long time.

The man had definitely intended to end his life. But as he kept sinking, by natural instinct, he kept waving his hand for help. Some people on board a boat nearby tried to go to his rescue but he had already gone down in water.

Since search operations had failed, it was feared that he had been dragged away by the river currents towards the sea.

The doubts came true when his body washed ashore earlier this week at a Kasaragod beach. He has been identified as Kushan (27) of T C Nagar of Ullal.

He worked for a bar near Ullal and had not come home after work on Mar 11. His sister had filed a complaint in the matter.

He suffered from depression and hence is suspected to have decided to end his life.
