Mumbai: In a relief to actor Salman Khan, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday granted bail to the actor and suspended his five-years sentence in 2002-hit-and-run case.
Actor will first have to go to trial court to execute fresh bail bond, as his interim bail ends today.
The actor was convicted and sentenced to five years’ rigorous imprisonment on Wednesday by the session court.
He was charged for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, besides penal provisions under Motor Vehicles Act and other laws.
Delivering the verdict in the case that dragged on for over 12 years, sessions court judge DW Deshpande said “all charges” against the actor have been proved, which included the stringent charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, besides various other offences, including rash and negligent driving and driving under influence of liquor.

He said he wanted to become a Bollywood script writer but did not get any opportunity to showcase his talent.
After that, he started sending his scripts to Salman hoping that the 49-year-old actor would give him a break in the industry, it said.
He was distraught because if Salman does not get bail, his dreams would remain unfulfilled and hence he allegedly consumed poison in the presence of police personnel.The man was unconscious and has been taken to hospital, police said.
The Bombay High Court is hearing Salman Khan’s bail plea and has also admitted his appeal against conviction by sessions court in the 2002 hit-and-run case.
