Rio de Janeiro, May 27 (IANS) Brazilian football club Botafogo are close to signing Uruguay international striker Emiliano Alfaro.
The 27-year-old is tied to Italian Serie A club Lazio until May 2016 but has spent the past season on loan at his original club Liverpool of Uruguay, reports Xinhua.
“I made a commitment to Botafogo that I would negotiate with them first. The next step is to try to rescind the contract with Lazio after that I will feel comfortable talking to Botafogo,” Alfaro’s agent Gerardo Cano said on Tuesday.
“I have had a positive experience negotiating with Botafogo in the past and Alfaro is happy about the proposal because they are the most famous Brazilian team among Uruguayans.”
Two-time Brazilian Serie A champions Botafogo are currently playing in the country’s Serie B after being relegated last season.
Alfaro has been capped by Uruguay at Under-17, U-20 and senior levels.
