Boxer dies after bout in Scotland
Glasgow, Oct 1 (IANS) Scottish boxer Mike Towell died in a hospital in Glasgow after he was injured in a bout, the boxer’s representatives said on Saturday.
The 25-year-old boxer was hospitalised after suffering a fifth-round loss to Dale Evans in a match organised by St. Andrews sporting club in a Glasgow hotel on Thursday.
“Within the last hour Mike Towell passed away – he will always be in our hearts,” the club tweeted.
Towell’s partner Chloe Ross told British media that the boxer “had severe bleeding and swelling to his brain.”
The boxer was knocked down in the first round, but recovered to continue the fight. However, referee Victor Loughlin decided to end the match in the fifth round when Towell suffered another fall.
Towell received medical treatment in the ring and was provided with oxygen before being taken by ambulance to the hospital.
