London, Dec 9 (IANS) New world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury has been investigated for his comments on homosexuality in Britain, Greater Manchester Police said.

Greater Manchester Police have received a report about Fury’s comments on “hate crime”, published in a newspaper interview before he won the WBA, IBF and WBO world heavyweight belts after beating Wladimir Klitschko on November 28, reports Xinhua.

“It’s true he’s been stripped of his IBF belt,” the BBC quoted IBF championships chairman Lindsey Tucker as saying on Tuesday.

Fury’s controversial remarks have evoked English public outrage and more than 100,00 people signed a petition asking the BBC to remove Fury from its Sports Personality of the Year shortlist.

They will take every allegation of “hate crime” about Fury seriously and be attending the complainant’s address to take a statement in due course, the police added.
