Brigadier DM Poorvimath praises St Aloysius NCC Wings during his Maiden Visit
Brigadier DM Poorvimath-VSM, DDG, Karnataka & Goa from Bengaluru praises St Aloysius College {Autonomous}-Mangaluru NCC Wings-Army Wing, Naval Wing and Air Wing during his Maiden Visit to the college campus on 5 June 2018.
Mangaluru: Following close on its heels, after the culmination of the 10-day NCC Annual Camp held at St Aloysius College Campus attended by 600 NCC Cadets, and which was graced by Col. Anil Nautiyal, Group Commander of NCC Group HQ; the NCC cadets of St Aloysius College belonging to Army Wing, Air-Force Wing and Naval Wing had the privilege of having close encounters with Brigadier DM Poorvimath, VSM { Vishisht Seva Medal }, DDG, {Deputy Director General} Karnataka & Goa, Bengaluru who made his maiden visit to St Aloysius College (Autonomous) on 5th June 2018. He was also accompanied by Col. Anil Nautiyal, Group Commander of NCC Group HQ, Mangaluru and Lt. Col. Gracian Sequiera, Adm Officer/Officiating Commanding Officer, 18 KarBn, NCC; Wing Commander Pant-VI Kar Air NCC Battalion; Lt Col Amit Ahsri-Training Officer were also present during the visit.
St Aloysius College having all the three wings of NCC- Army Wing, Naval Wing and Air Wing. NCC plays a significant role in Personality Development. Discipline learnt during student life molds one’s personality. National Cadet Corps (NCC) which works with the motto, “Unity & Discipline” has been doing great service to the youth of this nation. Brig. Poorvimath was given a red-carpet welcome and after the guard of honor by the NCC Cadets, he was welcomed by Fr Praveen Martis Sj-Principal of St Aloysius College with a bouquet of flowers- and was then escorted to the St Aloysius Chapel to take a tour of the Chapel. Fr Leo D’souza Sj -the former principal of st Aloysius Institutions briefed the guests about the history of the Chapel, and Brig. Poorvimath was highly impressed with the Chapel paintings and its magnificent structure.
He expressed his appreciation towards the various activities organized by the NCC Unit of the College. He was also briefed about the future plans and activities of the unit during this visit. He expressed his gratitude to the college for the finest infrastructure for the NCC cadets to train and improve themselves, and assured them that a firing range will take birth at the College where the NCC cadets will have training. It is learnt that The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Air Wing is a starting point for youngsters opting for a career in aviation.
From those who become Air Warriors in the Indian Air Force to those who join the civil aviation industry as pilots or cabin crew and to those who join as operators, managers, supervisors and engineers in commercial airlines– it is at the NCC’s Air Wing that all exposed to flying and handling aircraft controls at a young age. The NCC always aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service among young citizens. It aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life. The NCC also provides an environment in motivating young Indians to join the armed forces.
After taking a tour of the three NCC wings offices located in St Aloysius College campus, Brig. Poorvimath briefing the media persons said, ” At present, the Directorate uses the Zenair micro light aircraft for flying activities. These aircraft are outdated, but we will soon be getting two ‘Garud’ micro light aircrafts, which are a modern state of the art micro light air-crafts, which will be soon stationed at the Old Mangaluru Airport once the hanger is ready. These two air crafts are presently at the Yelahanka Air Force Station in Bengaluru, and when the hanger is ready they will be shifted here. Apart from training Air Wing cadets, NCC Directorate Karnataka and Goa, also took an important task this year by organizing a sea-sailing activity”
He further said, “Just recently in this sea-sailing activity, 76 naval cadets, including 26 women undertook this 9-day voyage from Dabolim-Goa to Karwar and back. The cadets undertook the 400 nautical miles sailing trip without any hurdles, thereby proving their training received at the hands of the training officers. The cadets are also undergoing training for the 28th All India G V Mavalankar Shooting Championship at Bengaluru. An Annual Training Camp is also planned at Uttarakhand where nearly 250 cadets will take part, in a cultural exchange programme”.

I am also thankful to the Principal for allowing us to use the swimming pool for NCC Naval Naval wing training programmes” added Brig. Poorvimath.
During Brig DM Poorvimath’s visit to the college, Dr A M Narahari-College Registrar, College ANO’s Lt Shakin Raj-NCC Army Wing, S/Lt Hariprasad Shetty-NCC Navy Wing; and flying officer Ashwil were among others present.
