Bunts of Oman Celebrate ‘Buntara Isiri 2018’ 31st Annual Get-together

Muscat: Bunts community members residing in Oman celebrated their 31st year of togetherness ‘Buntara Isiri 2018’ on 16th November at Le Grand Hall, Al Falaj Hotel, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. The celebration had the delightful tinge of culture and tradition. About 800 to 900 members of the Bunt community come together as one family.

The day-long fun-filled program included variety of dances, music, skit and other programs that represent rich Tulu and extraordinary bunt tradition.

The whole affair was meticulously planned and organized by following organizing committee members:

A beautiful rangoli, Mangalore Mallige(Jasmine), Haldi Kumkum along with children sprinkling rose water and nourishing badam milk welcomed the guests. The entrance door was decorated with marigold flowers, banana tree and mango leaves greeting the members of Oman Bunts and the guests. The traditional sanadhige decorated beautifully with flowers, tender coconut, Kalasha, pingara, paddy, bunch of bananas etc was placed at the center of the hall. All the organizers were dressed in the traditional attire.

The programme inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by committee members followed by an invocation to Lord Ganesha.
Mamta Prakash Shetty welcomed the gathering with her speech in Tulu. The stage program commenced with a prayer dance, choreographed by Rama Rajshekar Shetty and the young participants. There were a host of cultural events like Bharatnatyam, folk dances, filmy dances, Skit etc gave the event a traditional touch & flavour and succeeded in keeping the audience thoroughly entertained and happy.

The guest of honour was Aikala Harish Shetty (President-World Bunts Federation), Chandrika Harish Shetty and Karnoor Mohan Rai and they were welcomed in a traditional style and felicitated with a great respect.

Guest performers Advika Shetty, Arshitha & Ashmitha Shetty, Natasha Shetty and the masters of ceremony Niriksha Shetty & Nithesh Shetty Yekkar were felicitated by committee members.
The parents of the members of the community (Binner Manadige), who are on a visit to Oman, were felicitated by committee members. Prizes for Early bird, fun and spot games along with the sports events were distributed. The dance participants were given recognition awards for their performances by committee members.

Achievers and toppers in the Community were recognized and honoured during the programme. Dr. Niranjan Shetty was congratulated and honoured for successfully completion of PhD degree.

Anika Shivaprasad Ariga, Disha Arun Prakash Shetty, Spoorthi Jayasheela Shetty and Tejas Kishore Shetty were congratulated and honoured for their excellence in ‘Education Sector’.
On the occasion, a new committee was formed by Shashidhar Shetty Mallar and its members were introduced to the audience. The Buntara Isiri 2018 team presented flower and patte shawl to the new organizing committee members.

The sponsors (Presenter, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Patron) and major supporters of the annual get-together were presented mementos in recognition of their support by the committee members.

Splendid and mouth-watering traditional breakfast like pundi, semigey, padengi etc., scrumptious lunch, Evening tea with Tulunadu snacks like golibaje, bhajiya etc., and dinner with Tulunadu all time favourite kori rotti was served at the venue.

The programme was concluded with a vote of thanks by Ashok Shetty . He thanked all the sponsors, well-wishers and members of the community for their support and guidance which contributed to the grand success of Buntara Isiri 2018.

The raffle draw was conducted and winners got the prizes on the spot which included laptop and insurance policies. The culmination of the event a mega Tambola was conducted by the committee members.

All Bunts residing in Oman participated, interacted joyously and shared their happiness with each other. The event showcased a blend of traditional bunt heritage and a spirit of togetherness.
