Bunts Sangha Presents ‘Siri’ Award to 7 Women Achievers on Paggu Padinenma Siridina
Mangaluru: The Bantara Yane Nadavara Matr Sangha organised ‘Paggu Padinenma – Siridina’ and award ceremony, at Bunts Hostel here on May 1.
The programme began with an invocation. President of Buntara Yane Nadavara Matr Sangha Women’s Wing Dr Asha Jyothi Rai welcomed the gathering. Senior Author Dr Sunitha M Shetty from Mumbai inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.
Addressing the gathering Dr Sunitha said, “Today we are celebrating Siridina, Siri means prosperity. I left Mangaluru 62 years ago and was living in Mumbai but I was coming to my hometown very often as I was proud of my hometown. In Mumbai, I have tried my best to promote the Tulu language. Mumbai is like a sea, there are a number of people who strive to promote Kannada and Tulu language. I very much appreciate Buntara Yane Nadavara Matra Sangha especially the president of Women’s wing Dr Asha Jyothi Rai for organizing this beautiful programme and selecting 7 women achievers for the Siri award. Let this tradition continue. I once again congratulate the organizers for awarding me with the Tulu Ratna award.”
Buntara Yane Nadavara Matr Sangha conferred “Elver Siri Birdh”, on Dr Ratidevi, Vanaja, Violet Pereira, Kairunnisa, C S Radhika, Sudharatna and Kasturi. Pardana specialists Karghi Shedthi from Aladangadi and Leela Shedthi from Mala Karkala were also felicitated on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering Former Janapada University Vice-Chancellor, Dr Chinnappa Gowda said, “According to the Solar calendar, the first day of the Tuluva new year falls on April 14 while the Chandramana Ugadi (Lunar Calendar) is celebrated in March. It is the period of transition of seasons, where ‘Suggi’ culminates and the month of ‘Paggu’ commences. It is customary that on this day, farmers take up agricultural operation for the summer crop. Bisu was one of the most important festivals of the Tuluva culture, especially the farming community of the coastal districts because it is related to agriculture which thrives because of light. Light revolves around welcoming new life and hence, the festival marks a new beginning in life.”
Today we have felicitated two women for retaining the Pardhana and seven women have been awarded the “Elver Siri Birdh”. It is a meaningful award and the organizers have selected deserving candidates for the award.
President of Buntara Yane Nadavara Matr Sangha Dr Ajith Kumar Rai Maladi delivered the presidential address. President of Tuluvere Ayaana Koota Dr Rajesh Alva delivered the vote of thanks.
