Buses will be Seized if stopped in Unauthorised places – DC Jagadeesha
Mangaluru: ‘Action will be taken against those drivers who stop the bus in the middle of the road to alight and board passengers’, said DC Dr Jagadeesha in a meeting held at the regional transport office here on May 4.
A person complained that the bus drivers are violating the law, they stop the bus wherever they like and board the passengers. Responding to the complaint, DC Dr Jagadeesha said, ‘If any of the bus drivers violate the traffic rules, the public should inform the concerned authorities immediately. The RTO should have a helpline number to which the public can inform. As soon as the complaint is received the authorities should reach the spot immediately, follow the bus and seize it’.
Another person complained that some buses start from State bank and take 20 minutes to reach Ambedkar Circle. From State bank, the buses move slowly looking for passengers till Ambedkar Circle which creates traffic congestion in the city.
DC Jagadeesh said that the buses which ply from State bank towards Ambedkar circle should use the left lane. As soon as the passengers board the bus in the stops, the bus should move further. The buses should not wait for the passengers in unauthorised places. If any buses are found stopping in the middle of the road, strict action should be taken against them’, ordered the DC.
DC Jagadeesha also ordered to compulsorily see that women and girls are made to board and alight the bus from the front door and for men from the rear door.
4 seats for senior citizens
From now on in all private and government buses 4 seats should be reserved for senior citizens. Earlier for senior citizens, there were only two seats which have now been increased to 4. While senior citizens travel by bus the reserved seats should be exclusively left for their use.
DCP Crime and Traffic Sanjeev Patil, SP Bhushan Borase, RTO G S Hegde and others were also present.
Greetings Dr. Jagadeesha,
If you really take action then by the weekend 20%of the running buses will be surely seized by RTO, unless it’s a statement on paper only.
By alloting 2 extra seats you are in no way helping senior citizens, but if you see that the steps are lower and the conductors are more courteous then yes you will bring a smile on the senior citizens.
Great move. Hope these measures are followed. Sudden stopping of the bus not only causes traffic congestion but also has caused lot of accidents in the past.
The law imposed should be strictly followed.
The buses of mangalore are like ” Noehs Arc” stopping even after a distance of few meters after bus stop. common feature seen all over. if rule has to be implemented there should be traffic personal to enforce the law
