Business opportunities for Consulting Civil Engineers in ‘Smart City-Mangaluru’
Mangaluru: Rajendra Kumar, Civil engineer turned AAP political activist addressed the members of association of Consulting Civil Engineers in a special function on 19th July at Lions Seva Mandir. He highlighted the following points in the talk:
– The government is planning to spend more than 2000 crore rupees on the smart city activities in Mangalore.
– The proposed projects list which are in various stages of implementation are smart clock tower at townhall junction (Estimated cost of 98 lakhs), Multi level car parking at Old bus stand Hampankatta (Estimated cost of 9400 lakhs), Transport hub at Mahaveer Circle ( Estimated cost of 400 crores), Laying of UGD lines (Estimated cost of 392 lakhs), construction of bus shelters phase I and II (estimated cost of 394 and 398 lakhs) and Smart road package I (estimated cost of 584 lakhs).
– Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) is the nodal agency which is carrying out the smart city projects. M/s Wadia group is the EPMC for the smart city projects. In spite of repeated visits to MSCL office and after putting number of RTI on various smart city projects and on the EPMC role, MSCL is yet to provide the responses.
– RTI has been filed to get design report on Multi level car parking, appointment of EPMC agency and also on the MSCL working.
– Recently the MSCL announced through the news media that Citizens advisory committee consisting of local technical experts and others will be constituted by MSCL.
Rajendra Kumar requested all civil engineers to follow the projects which are being taken up by MSCL and keep vigil to ensure that all governmental procedures, technical compliance and safety aspects are followed by MSCL in project implementations. Even though the projects are being executed in our own city Mangaluru, he regretted the fact that local civil engineers are not involved in giving professional services. He expressed big reservations on the quality of professional services being rendered by various agencies which are currently involved in the MSCL project execution.
He stresses the fact that the local civil engineers are missing this great opportunity of utilising their expertise and professional skill. He requested the association to meet the MSCL/all concerned authorities and demand for their representation on the MSCL board/advisory board. It is off utmost importance for the local experts to get involved in the project as it is we, the local, who will suffer of any shortfall later
