By arresting D K Shivakumar, Modi is Killing Democracy – Vinay Kumar Sorake
Udupi: By arresting former minister D K Shivakumar the Narendra Modi led Union government is playing vendetta politics and killing democracy said former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.
He was speaking at a protest held by the District Congress at Jodukatte, Udupi on Wednesday, September 4 against the arrest of senior leader DK Shivakumar by the Enforcement Directorate in Delhi on Tuesday, September 3 in connection with the money laundering case.
The Central government was desperately trying to arrest Shivakumar and was hounding him for the past two years. “Both the State and Central BJP leaders are displaying their cowardice. Since they cannot face D K Shivakumar politically, they are misusing the investigative agencies to corner him,” he said.
“The agenda of the BJP is to finish off the opposition leaders. These are the acts of an authoritarian government which is a great danger to our democracy,” he charged.
“The Central government is taking revenge against D K Shivakumar by misusing IT and ED for sheltering the Gujarat Congress MLAs. If he had committed a mistake they would have prosecuted him for the wrongdoing. But, misusing investigative agencies for revenge is condemnable,” he said.
Former MLA U R Sabhapathi, district Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, vice president Prakyath Shetty, Congress leaders Kishan Hegde Kolakebailu, Ramesh Kanchan, Yathish Karekera, Dinesh Putran, Veronica Cornelio, Roshani Olivera, Dr Sunitha Shetty, Prashanth Jattanna, Ida Gibba Dsouza, Rehaman Kodavoor, Ganesh Nergi and others were present.
