Byndoor Businessman Annappa Kharvi killed in Tanker – Car Collision
Bhatkal: One person was killed and nine injured after a car in which they were travelling rammed into a fuel tanker at Mavinkatte on NH 66 near Murdeshwar, Bhatkal taluk on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Annappa Kharvi (60), a well known fish businessman in Uppanda.
He and his family members were returning to Uppunda, near Kundapur after attending a festival in Sirsi when their car collided head-on into a tanker which was on the way to Yellapur from Mangalore.
The tanker hauling 12,000 gallons of fuel including 8000 gallons Diesel and 4000 gallons petrol, overturned soon after the crash, the car too overturned and landed on the divider of the under construction road.
The injured are identified as wife of Annappa, Mukambika Kharvi (55), son Subramanya Kharvi (30), Prabhakar Kharvi (45), his wife Nagveni Kharvi (33). Pushpa Kharvi, Sharada Kharvi and three children.
It is said that Subramanya Kharvi who was driving the car was stuck in the car after the crash. The locals had a tough time to bring out Subramanya from the car. He is said to be seriously injured and was taken to Manipal after initial treatment at Bhatkal govt hospital and Kundapur hospital.
A case has been registered in the Murdeshwar police station.
