‘Can anyone’s ego be greater than the lives of millions?’-asks National Fishworkers Forum
National Fishworkers Forum (NFF) and Goenchea Ramponkarcho exvott (GRE) extend solidarity today at New Delhi on Massive rally and protest in Barwani ! Olencio Simoes-the vice chairperson of NFF said that Can anyone’s ego be greater than the lives of millions? And Will it always be the People who will suffer due to mutual vengeance of political parties?
Benefits of development are reaped by one and the consequences of development are faced by another, do we have no objection to this model? Will the People always have to struggle for their rights? The people of Narmada Valley are struggling today amid all these questions! The entire culture of the Narmada Valley is drowning, hundreds of villages, animals, millions of trees and crops, thousands of temples and mosques! In such a situation, ignoring the sinking of the Narmada Valley by the Central Government raises the question whether the hunger and ego of power is greater than humanity!
Similarly, on 17 September 2017, the central government had put the model of such a catastrophe in the name of development, in front of this country, to commemorate Modi’s birthday. On that day, Modi inaugurated the Sardar Sarovar Dam celebrating the occasion of the height of the Dam reaching 138.68 meters. This year, once again on 17th September Modi will celebrate his birthday by drowning millions of people and an entire human civilization!
The water level in the dam has reached 138.34. There is an outcry in the valley, the valley is surrounded in a thick veil of sadness. These millions of people do not even remember how many days it has been since they have either slept or eaten properly. Due to such cruelty and arrogance of the government, the people of the valley are unable to understand that why the representatives they choose to uplift our country and society are instead drowning them today!
So far no orders have been issued by the government on the decisions taken in the full-day meeting between the Narmada Bachao Andolan and Madhya Pradesh administration on 9 September. Because of this, the officials and administration people coming to the affected area’s are not able to take strong action on various issues. Also, Madhya Pradesh government is falling short in relief and rescue work. There are many villages where not even a single officer has reached yet.
The situation in the valley is extremely serious! But even then, if you reach the valley today you will find a whole different facet of humanity. You will see more people from the villages than from the administration coming out to help the people trapped in this devastating situation. People, regardless of the condition of their house, without even thinking of the water which has reached the door of their houses, have come out in large numbers to help out others. Looking at such a view may be your faith in humanity will be restored.
