Cancer Awareness Program & Distribution of food-kits at Taremar
“Beat Cancer through Healthy Lifestyle” – An awareness talk on ‘Cancer’ and also Covid-19 was organized by CODP through Sparsha at Taremar in two batches on August 23. The initiative was taken by the team of Sparsha to create awareness on Cancer and COVID-19.
The programme started with a prayer lead by SHG members. Ms Lydia Moras, the Project Coordinator, welcomed the gathering. Fr Oswald Monteiro, Director of CODP, delivered the keynote address.
Ms Shilpa D’Souza took up the session on cancer. She explained to the participants about various types of cancer, symptoms and causes of cancer, and how it has affected the lives of the people. She also encouraged the participants to grow and consume organically grown vegetables which would lead them to follow a healthy lifestyle. She advised all members who attended, to have a regular health checkup to treat this disease at an early stage.
Fr Oswald Monteiro spoke on COVID-19 and the main symptoms of the disease. He mainly focused on SMS, which means to maintain Social distance, proper usage of Mask and use of Sanitizers. He also mentioned taking proper precautions which could help in controlling the spread of the disease. At the end of the session, he also advised all to be safe and healthy.
Thereafter, Fr Oswald informed the recipients about the agencies viz. Sneha Sadan, Kinnikambla and Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation who had donated food-kits to be distributed to needy families. The food-kits were then distributed to the 62 SHG members who had attended the programme.
