Candle Santhu Murder Accused Sentenced to Life Imprisonment

Mangaluru: The fourth Additional Sessions Court sentenced two of the accused in Santhosh alias Candle Santhu murder case to life imprisonment here on July 20.

The accused Iqbal Kavoor and Farooq Karkala were sentenced to life imprisonment along with a penalty of Rs 1 lakh in connection with the murder of Candle Santhu in 2009.

On 18, February 2009, at around 9:30 am while Candle Santhu was on his way to Polali Sri Rajarajeshwari Temple, the accused arrived in a car and stabbed Santhu to death. In this connection, a case was filed in the Bantwal Rural police station under sections 143, 147, 148, 302 and 149 of the IPC. The Bantwal police investigated the case and arrested 22 persons. A charge sheet was filed in the court.

On July 20, the fourth additional Sessions court sentenced life imprisonment and a penalty of Rs one lakh each to both Iqbal and Farooq.

SP B R Ravikanthe Gowda appreciated the work by the then Bantwal Rural Circle Inspector Nanjundegowda and team and announced a reward.
