Car plunges into canal, two engg students drown
Santhemarahalli (Chamarajanagar district),(DHNS): Two engineering students drowned as the car they were travelling in plunged into the Kabini Right Bank Canal near Alur on Thursday. However, another student, accompanying them escaped with injuries.
The deceased students have been identified as M H Darshan (21), a resident of Tilak Nagar, Mysuru and J Karthik (21), a resident of Chamundi Hill, Mysuru. The student, who survived is also Darshan, a resident of Hootagalli, Vijayanagar 3rd Stage, in Mysuru.
All the three were final year Mechanical Engineering students of Ekalavya Engineering College in Ummathuru village near Santhemarahalli. As they were residing in Mysuru, they used to travel together to attend college. The students, who usually travel by bus, chose to travel by car on Thursday.
It is said that they were on their way to college on T Narasipur and Nanjangud Main Road via Alur Cross, when the car crashed into the barrier wall on the narrow bridge and plunged into the Kabini canal below.
While M H Darshan and Karthik died on the spot, Darshan opened the door of the car and swam to safety. He has been admitted to a hospital in T Narasipur.
College staff, Fire and Emergency Services and police personnel rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies. The bodies were sent to T Narasipur government hospital for post-mortem.
