Carelessness of People Leads to Blockage in Drainage Pipe at Kadri

Mangaluru: The drainage reverse flowing in some apartments has been reported at Kadri Junction in the City here on June 23.

The Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation Kavitha Sanil was informed by the Corporator of the Shivabagh ward Sabitha Misquith about the problems faced by some of the flat owners at Kadri Junction. The Mayor immediately visited the spot and instructed the concerned authorities to rectify the problem as soon as possible.

One of the residents of Annavista Apartment said, “Since four days the drainage has been reverse flowing into our flat since I reside in the basement flat. There is also a fear of the drainage flowing into our water tank.”

Corporator of Shivabagh ward Sabitha Misquith said, “Today the residents of Annavista informed me about the drainage problems. I immediately informed the Mayor and she has taken action to rectify the problem. We have already brought a JCB and necessary equipment and have already started the work. A new manhole will be constructed since the present manhole has very old pipes which may create regular problems.”

Speaking to mangalorean.com Kavitha Sanil said, “Residents of Annavista Apartments informed us about the drainage water coming out into their flats and the fear of the water entering the fresh water tank. When I contacted the engineer, he said that it is necessary to dig more than 12 feet to fix the problem. The drainage pipes are very old which were laid in 1960. Now the drainage has clogged in the pipes at the Kadri Junction. There is a gap between two manholes. People throw bottles, napkins etc into the drainage. We will construct a new manhole to solve the problem.”

Engineer Raghupal said we will clear the blockage by today and will construct a separate manhole. But people should know that they should not throw napkins, bottles, plastic etc into the drainage. Some people are so careless, they dump everything into the drainage. Today we will clean the drainage pipes, but so9me people will continue their habit of dumping everything into the drainage and create such problems. The public should co-operate with the MCC by acting in a responsible manner.”

MLA J R Lobo also visited the spot and instructed the concerned authorities to do the needful.
