Mangaluru: To create harmony and brotherhood, a ‘Sauharda Christmas’ programme was organized by the Chief Whip of the Karnataka Legislative Council, Ivan D’Souza at the Kankanady Market Grounds, here on December 22.

The programme began with an invocation. Chief Whip, Ivan D’Souza welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by cutting the cake by the guests.

In his welcome speech, Ivan D’Souza said, “Celebrating festivals together creates harmony and brotherhood among people of all faiths. We are all one. Christmas festival means joy, sharing and caring. Today many children have participated in various competitions as one. Festivals bring us together. Last time I had organized the Diwali celebrations at Town Hall and people from all faiths had participated in the celebrations. Let this Christmas bring peace, joy, harmony and brotherhood in the society.”

Speaking on the occasion, Rev Palanna said, “Today we are here to celebrate Christmas. Festivals like Deepavali, Ramadan and Christmas bring people of all faiths together as one. We all need to live in peace and harmony in the society. We need to think about others forgetting our differences and forgiving those who have hurt us.”

Rev Palanna further said, “Christmas means gift and God has given his only son to us as a gift. Another symbol of Christmas is the Santa Claus who is also known as Saint Nicholas, Kris Kringle, Father Christmas, or simply Santa, he is a legendary figure originating from the Western Christian culture who is said to bring gifts to the homes of well-behaved children on Christmas Eve and the early morning hours of Christmas Day. Christmas is the festival of sharing and caring. We need to understand two facts in life which are, the Rich people should look at how the poor people live and the poor people should see how the rich have worked hard to earn their wealth. If we think of these facts we can eliminate poverty.”

Prior to the stage programme, carol singing, Santa Claus and Christmas Star competitions were held. An exhibition of cakes was also held.

Ganesh Rao presided over the function. MLA Moideen Bava and B A Moideen also spoke on the occasion. Mayor Kavitha Sanil, Ibrahim Kodijal, Dr Kavitha D’Souza, and others were also present. Trustee of Sanidhya Vasanth compered the programme.

May God shower His blessings on Mr. Ivan Dsouza for the very thought of inviting people of all faiths to celebrate Christmas.

Yes, true love, peace, and joy must prevail amongst all the people of
Karnataka and India in general to enjoy happiness and harmony.

Rid the party systems and their agendas to divide Indians in their pursuit for power. The people in power serve no one except themselves.

Thank you so very much, dear Shriman Ivan D’Souza for your thoughtful gesture in bringing Xmaz feelings with a holiday spirit to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. India is changing, and India has changed so much for better over the years, it is heartening to feel that the secular values are looming large on the nation, and therefore the Almighty God of all faiths will always remain kind and merciful on India that is striving for communal harmony, love and peace. As much as we visit India almost every year, our focus is not on the delicious food that we eat… Read more »
