Cauvery not an issue without solution, political will needed to solve it: Prakash Rai
Belagavi: Multilingual actor Prakash Rai said that Cauvery river water sharing dispute was not an issue without a solution. Political parties and their leaders were keeping the issue alive with vested interest.
Rai said: “When the Nile River can be shared among five countries, why can’t we find a solution to share Cauvery water among two or three states ?”.
The issue can be resolved by discussion. But no step is being taken towards finding a solution. On behalf of his ‘Just Ask Foundation’ documentaries on Cauvery, Mahadayi and various other issues were being made involving subject matter experts. “We need to sensitize people to the issue,” he opined.
Rai took exception to film stars issuing statements without a proper understanding of the issue. “They will not benefit from such statements. Only political will of stakeholder states and the central government can lead to a solution,” Rai remarked.
The actor who is highly critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the BJP would not come to power in Karnataka, nor retain its power at the centre; post-2019 Parliamentary elections.
He likened BJP to cancer and other political parties to smaller ailments like a cough, cold or fever. He urged people to fight against cancer and save democracy.
While batting for strengthening the federal system, Rai said regional parties should grow stronger as national parties don’t fight for regional concerns.
Asserting that he was an apolitical person, he urged people to oppose BJP which does not believe in equality, democracy and was imposing its ideologies.
“Rather than giving good governance, and responding to the concerns of the people, BJP is promoting communalism and speaking of changing the Constitution. People have already realised that the BJP does not walk the talk and diverts from core issues,” Rai remarked.
