Celebrating Tipu Jayanti is equivalent to Hitler Jayanti – MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary

Udupi: Opposition leader in Legislative Council, Kota Srinivas Poojary said that celebrating Tipu Jayanti in Karnataka state is equivalent to celebrating Hitler Jayanti. The government is unnecessarily glorifying a person who was anti-Hindu and had massacred Hindus.

He was speaking at a protest held against Tipu Jayanti by the Udupi district BJP at Kadiyali on Friday, November 9.

MLC Kota Srinivas strongly criticized the JD(S)-Congress coalition government’s decision to celebrate Tipu Jayanti and said that the Chief Minister Kumaraswamy led Congress-JDS government is unnecessarily glorifying a person who was anti-Hindu and had massacred Hindus in large numbers. He accused it as vote bank politics to appease the minorities. He appealed to the chief minister not to Participate in the Tipu Jayanti programme.

Coming down heavily on the previous Congress government, the MLC said that the celebration was initiated by the former chief minister Siddaramaiah. The voters rejected the Congress party owing to its appeasement of minorities. But Congress has not learnt any lessons.

Asserting that the law and order mechanism will be massively disturbed during the celebrations, Poojary said that the state government should act responsibly and will be held accountable for all the chaos during the celebrations.

Udupi District BJP president Mattar Rathnakar Hegde said that the government does not have the ‘strength’ to observe Tipu Jayanthi in public. “Instead, Tipu Jayanti is being organized within the four walls of a building. It is a tragedy that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy is following the tradition of his predecessor in observing Tipu Jayanti.”

Hegde said, “Tipu had only expanded his territory and did not contribute anything for the welfare of the state or country. He had attacked over 8,000 temples and 1,000 churches.” He urged the government to withdraw its decision to observe Tipu Jayanti.

Udupi ZP vice-president Sheela K Shetty, BJP leaders Uday Kumar Shetty, Akshith Shetty Herga, Shyamala Kundar, Veena Shetty, Suresh Shetty Gurme, Raghavendra Kini and others were present.
