Celebrities mourn celebrated humanitarian Edhi’s demise
Mumbai, July 9 (IANS) Pakistani actors like Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan and Ali Zafar as well as Indian film celebrities like Anupam Kher on Saturday mourned the demise of Pakistan’s celebrated humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi.
Edhi, who was the Edhi Foundation’s Chairman, passed away on Friday night at a hospital in Karachi. He was 92. His funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon.
Edhi’s foundation supported thousands of needy people and children. He was conferred several national awards for his services to humanity.
Zafar, who has done a slew of Bollywood films like “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan” and “Tere Bin Laden”, shared that he will always be amongst Edhi’s followers.
He tweeted: “Edhi was beyond Nobel prize. No prize could do justice to what he was. Rest in peace. Thank you sir. Edhi sahab. Words can’t define a person of your stature. You’ll always be amongst us and so will your contribution to humanity. Pray for us.”
Popular singer Adnan Sami, who is of Pakistani descent, was also sad over the news.
He said: “Abdul Sattar Edhi… Today’s ‘Saintly Fakir’ and Greatest Father to Orphans passes on… respect.”
Mahira Khan, who will be debuting in Bollywood with “Raees”, feels coming to terms with the news of the death is the “hardest truth”.
She posted: “Allah will receive him with open arms… This world loses one of His men. There will never be another like #Edhi.. Rest in peace”.
Indian actor Anupam Kher shared: “Edhi Sahab was an International face of Kindness and Selflessness. Very sad to know about his demise. Humanity will miss him. #Pakistan”.
A post on Fawad Khan’s official Facebook page read: “A great human being and a shining example for all of us has passed away today.”
