Centre issues notice to Trinamool MP Abhishek’s wife
New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has issued a show-cause notice to Rujira Naroola, wife of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, for allegedly forging documents to avail Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) and PAN cards, a Ministry official said on Wednesday.
She is accused of submitting the false documents to “conceal facts”.
The Ministry, in its notice, has asked Naroola to provide a detailed written explanation for hiding facts in her application to obtain these documents.
Naroola’s husband is the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The notice was issued days after the Central government informed the Supreme Court that the West Bengal Police “intimidated” customs officials at the Kolkata international airport on March 16 when they caught Naroola of carrying excess gold without a declaration.
Customs officials have filed a complaint against Naroola, who has, in turn, filed a counter complaint. However, her husband has said that the allegations are “false” and intended to malign the image of his wife and party.
