Centre will support any legislative movement by Karnataka on Kambala – Ravishankar Prasad
Udupi: If the government of Karnataka takes up any legislative movement by means of ordinance or law, the union government will effectively support it said Minister for Information Technology and Law Ravishankar Prasad. He was speaking to the media persons on the position of the Union government stand on Kambala during his visit to Sri Krishna Math here on January 25.
The government’s position on supporting the traditional customs is clear. There is an interim order on Kambala in the court which will be studied. The government respects the culture and tradition of the country.
While questioned on the Uniform Civil Code, Prasad said that discussions are on while the Triple Talaq issue destroys gender justice, gender dignity and gender equality. Our constitution respects women’s dignity and since, the Triple Talaq is unfortunate. Every activity cannot be supported saying it is part of the religion.
There are twenty countries which have regulated triple Talaq including Pakistan which follows the sharia law, then how can it be followed in a country which is secular? he questioned.
He also said that BJP’s win in the By-polls and assembly elections have proven its growth factor, it will continue to flourish in the coming assembly polls in 5 states.
He also said that it was an honour to visit Sri Krishna Math which is near to his heart. The Pejawar Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji is an ideal saint to all, he added.
BJP District President Tingale Vikramarjun Hegde, Uday Kumar Shetty, VHP Leader Suprasad Shetty and others were present.
