Chain Reaction! 3 Vehicle Accident Sends Two People to Hospital with Injuries

Mangaluru: Multi-vehicle accidents commonly occur when more than two or three vehicles hit each other in a chain of rear-end accidents. Typically, they happen because of the force of the first collision: the third in a line of vehicles rear-ends the second vehicle, and the second vehicle rear ends the one in front of it- These types of accidents are also called “chain reactions.” Although they can be the result of a single driver’s negligence, chain reaction accidents may involve instances of carelessness by multiple drivers. Many people, including passengers in any of these cars, may sustain injuries. Therefore, litigating the resulting personal injury lawsuit can be particularly challenging.

The biggest issue in chain reaction accidents is who was at fault? Pinpointing causation can be tricky from a factual perspective. In a case where a driver admits to being distracted and being the first vehicle to rear-end another vehicle in a line of vehicles, it may be appropriate to assign that driver 100% liability. But whatever be the case it is total negligence of one of the drivers who had hit rear ended the vehicle first- and in this accident-it is 100% fault of the speeding bus driver. Even though the traffic rule says to keep distance between each vehicle on the road, but hardly anyone follows it- and this is what happens when the vehicle in front of you applies a sudden brake.

At around 5.30 pm or so, three vehicles namely an auto-rickshaw, a mini-tempo and bus were plying from Bunt’s Hostel Road towards Jyothi Circle/Dr Ambedkar Circle. And the traffic signal near Jyothi circle is too confusing- sometimes you’ll have to keep your wide open whether the signal lights are working or is the cop who is manually controlling the traffic. In this case today, it was the cop who was at the helm of traffic control. During the rush hour on Wednesday evening around 5:30 pm, the traffic cop gave the STOP signal, and the auto-rickshaw bearing licence plate no KA 19 C 4879, made a full stop near Jyothi Circle. Behind the auto-rickshaw was a tempo bearing reg. no KA 19 D 3717, who also stopped in time.

But unfortunately our City’s “Yamadootha’s” bus driver of the vehicle bearing reg no KA 19 AB 4887 Route No 13 B (plying between State Bank and Kunjaithbail) on its speeding spree not able to apply the brake in time, rear-ended the tempo very hard, which resulted in the tempo to hit hard into the auto-rickshaw in front of it- the impact was so hard that the auto-rickshaw tilted over. The force was so much when the bus hit the rear end of the tempo, that the bus windshield came crashing down in pieces. Two passengers and the auto-driver who sustained injuries were rushed to the nearby KMC Hospital. While the auto-driver is fine, the two passengers are admitted with injuries.

Rithesh, the son of the auto-driver Vasantha (aged 50) speaking to Team Mangalorean said, “My father sustained leg and hand injuries when the auto-rickshaw tilted over. He will be discharged soon after scanning is done. But the other two passengers in the vehicle are admitted with injuries. It is totally the fault of the bus driver for speeding and not stopping in time, which resulted in this chain reaction. It is scary the way the bus drivers drive in the city, and the Traffic law enforcement has done nothing to stop them from the rash driving and negligence “.

All the three vehicles have been taken to the Kadri Police station, and case has been registered against the drivers at fault. A lesson to learn from this accident is that “ALWAYS KEEP DISTANCE BETWEEN VEHICLES WHILE DRIVING OR RIDING”- If not you’ll face consequences like this accident?

It’s the high time… people of Mangaluru, and concerned department should think of stopping all city n service buses in Mangaluru….and providing all the Government buses so that there will be no competition and timings….Bus owners are can’t help because of shortage of real staff…they instead give contracts to bus conductors. It has become out of control of associations. Pity is so many political leaders are owners of buses or permits. Now it’s the time for public to oppose…..Media should high light….then only it will happen
