Chakravarty Sulibele Should be arrested for Insulting Dalits – DDSHS
Mangaluru: “The Dalita – Damanithara Swabhimani Horata Samiti had organized Chalo Udupi Jatha in Udupi with the slogan of “Food is our choice and Land is our right” on October 9. Many leaders from various organizations participated in the Jatha. After the programme, the Yuva Brigade, and some Hindu outfits started discriminating and harassing the Dalits. Chakravarty Sulibele has tried to highlight that untouchability is still practiced, saying that the Udupi streets should be cleaned through “Kanaka Nade” and made beautiful again. We are taking legal action against his statement, which has hurt the sentiments of the Dalits. Sulibele should be arrested immediately for insulting the Dalits”, said the Dalit leader Raghuveer Suterpete in a press meet held at Hotel Woodlands here on October 21.
Raghuveer further said, “There are attempts going on to divide the society in the name of untouchability. If Chakravarty Sulibele will hold “Kanaka Nade”, we will surely hold “Swabhimanada Nade” on the same day. We have been discriminated and our rights have been snatched. In the Chalo Udupi programme, many Swamijis, intellectuals, thinkers and writers have participated and made it successful. The Yuva Brigade cannot digest the success of Chalo Udupi so they have organized “Kanaka Nade” and said that the Udupi streets will be cleaned on October 23. If Kanaka Nade will be held on October 23, the DSHS members from the state will hold “Swabhimanada Nade”, on the same day”, Raghuveer warned.
Raghuveer also said, “The Kanaka Nade”, is an anti-Dalit programme to create a rift between the Dalits and others in the society. We are also Hindus and we have the right to lead our life with respect. We have organized the Chalo Udupi convention to demand our rights and we do not have any intention to gherao the Math. We respect Pejawar Swamiji and will not create problems for the Math or the Swamiji. At the same time, we will not tolerate discrimination against the Dalits. Dalits are also human beings and should get the rights for land, food of our choice and reservation in the private sectors. We will also meet the IGP of Western range and submit a memorandum to arrest Sulibele for hurting the sentiments of the entire Dalit community through his comments on Facebook”.
Addressing the mediapersons Ashok Konchadi said, “Whatever Mevani said during the Chalo Udupi are his own views on the Math. Mevani said that there is discrimination in the Math, there should be equality and it should start from the Math. Because the Pankti Bheda is still practiced in the Udupi Math he had said that if the Pankti Bheda will not be stopped in two months he will take the lead and enter the Math. The organizers of Udupi Chalo did not speak on Pankti Bheda. The agenda for the convention was different, our organization has nothing to do with Mevani’s opinion. Some Hindu outfits even tagged the intellectuals who participated in the Chalo Udupi to Naxals and the Muslims tagged as terrorists. Such Hindu organizations have fake patriotism. They also say that they are cleaning the streets of Udupi, why? he questioned. This is discrimination against the Dalits, he said.
“Even Pramod Muthalik has threatened us, saying that if anyone dares to enter the Math, we will not allow them to go back. Muthalik has issued a threat to us. So we have filed a complaint against him. Some of the Dalit leaders are taking their side because of money and delivering speeches supporting them. They are fake leaders, they have not done anything for the Dalits. The Kanaka Nade is another face of the Yuva Brigade to insult the Dalits. If “Kanaka Nade” will be held, we will also hold the “Swabhimanada Nade” on the same day in Udupi. The police department and the government should take this issue seriously and stop the Kanaka Nade. If any untoward incident takes place the government will be held responsible”, he said.
Addressing the mediapersons State president of All College Students Association Dinakar Shetty said, “Yuva Brigade has organized a programme and its district president is giving statements against Dalits. Chakravarthy Sulibele is a youth leader, he should guide the youth in the right direction and not divide the society. Sulibele had visited the Jail to release a person, accused of involvement in murder. Chakravarthy Sulibele says beautiful Udupi has been spoiled and we are cleaning it. Why should we gherao the Udupi Math, our only request is to stop the Pankti Bheda. Whatever Sulibele has posted on the facebook, the answers are available on his FB post”.
Suresh Bhat Bakrebail said that the Samijis from various Maths have supported our programme and have also extended their support in future.
Gulabi Bilimale, M Devadas, Ramesh Kotian, Anand Bellare, S P Anand, Haneef, Jagadish Suterpete and others were also present.
