Challengers Lift ‘SWAK Cricket Trophy 2019’
Kuwait: The newly formed Sports committee of Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK), hosted the first cricket tournament titled SWAK TROPHY Season 1.
Twenty Four teams participated in the scheduled League matches in 5 groups of the cricket tournament which started from March 24 till 13th April 2019. A total of 8 teams qualified in the league matches and entered the knockout round (quarterfinal & semifinal) to secure their place in Grand Finale which was played On 26 April 2019.
Teams RED N BLACK vs MFC played the first quarter finale, while team BOOM BOOM vs SCORPIONS; BROTHERS11 vs ALFA11 and CHALLENGERS vs INDIAN11 played the rest of the quarterfinals on 26 April 2019 during the morning session.
Semifinal 1 was played in the afternoon between CHALLENGERS Vs MFC and Semifinal2 was played between teams SCORPIONS Vs BROTHERS11. CHALLENGERS won in the First semifinal. Match took an exciting turn when the results of the 2nd semifinal between Scorpions Vs Brothers11 were tied. In the Super over Scorpions defeated Brothers11 and entered the finals.
In the final match, Challengers won the toss & chose to field. Team Scorpions batting first scored 51 runs in the stipulated 6 overs.
Challengers chased the total score of 52 runs in 5.2 overs winning the finals and clinching the SWAK Cricket Trophy 2019.
Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK) Committee organised the entire event. During the presentation ceremony, the SWAK Cricket Trophy was handed over to the winning team Challengers captain by Guests Mario & Joylin Cornelio, while the runners-up team award was handed over by Wasim Sheik.
SWAK President Alban D’Souza handed over the Man of the Series & Man of the final Match award to Arif from Challengers. SWAK Committee members felicitated the winners of various titles. Best Batsman – Rayees from Scorpions & Best Bowler award was given to Sajid from Scorpions for their respective performances during the series. SWAK sports secretary Godwin Fernandes along with the committee members conducted all the matches in a well-organized manner. The presentation ceremony was conducted by the SWAK cultural Secretary Lionel D’Souza. The programme concluded thanking all the sponsors who wholeheartedly rendered their support to SWAK for the noble cause to help the needy and less fortunate back home in India.
