Chaos during Udupi CMC meeting over ‘CM Siddaramaiah Anti-Hindu’ remark

Udupi: Heated arguments were witnessed between the ruling party leaders and opposition members at the CMC meeting held at the Sri Sathyamurthy Auditorium, CMC here, on December 29.

Raising the issue, BJP Councillor Yashpal Suvarna questioned if the CMC was preparing for the Paryaya festival as it was nearing and that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had many times visited Udupi but did not visit the Sri Krishna Temple. He termed Siddaramaiah’s attitude as anti-Hindu.

The ruling party councillor Janardhan Bhandarkar objected the remarks by Yaspal Suvarna. Other Congress councillors and CMC president Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje also supported Bhandarkar’s move. Meenakshi Madhava said that Yashpal Suvarna had unnecessarily brought the Chief Ministers name in the council which is condemnable. Visiting the Temple is left to him and no one can question it. With the effort of the District minister in charge Pramod Madhwaraj, the chief minister has released Rs 10 crore special grant to Udupi CMC. Repair and upgrading work of the roads, drains and the footpath was in progress. All the work would be completed by January 2 said Meenakshi Madhava.

BJP Councillor Yashpal Suvarna asked the president that from the last 20 days Udupi Utsava has started. People were complaining that for Mangaluru Karvali Utsav which has begun they were charging Rs 30 per ticket and for the Udupi Utsav the charges are Rs 50 per ticket which is looting the people. Who is controlling Udupi Utsav? What is the role of the Udupi CMC in the Udupi Utsav? he questioned. He also demanded to organise the Udupi Utsav under the City Municipal Council and its income should be used for development works.

Clarifying the issue Meenakshi Madhava said that there is no role for the Udupi CMC in Udupi Utsav. It is totally a private party which is holding the event, the CMC has strictly instructed to take safety measures and clean the surroundings. Our Engineers have visited the spot and checked all the safety measures, she said.

The illegal banner issue, Illegal Auto Rickshaw stand issue, LED light issues were also discussed during the meeting.

Vice President Sandhya Thilak Raj, Standing committee president Hormis Noronha were also present.
