Chaos Erupts during Council Meeting on Red Building Road Issue
Mangaluru: Chaos erupts on the Red Building road widening issue during MCC council meeting here on April 28.
Opposition leader Roopa D Bangera raised the issue of Red Building road widening and alleged, “By keeping the residents of Red Building area in the dark the widening of the road has been passed in the council. We heard that some multi-storey buildings are coming up in this area, to provide a road approach for the buildings the road is being widened. If the residents of the area face problems due to the widening of the road then it is better to drop the road widening project in Red Building area”.
Responding to the allegations Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, “The issue will be discussed and a solution will be found. Instead of fighting in the council it is better to solve the problem”.
Opposition leader Sudheer Shetty questioned the Mayor about the rationing system of water. When there was water in the Thumbay dam and AMR dam why the Mayor took the decision of rationing the water? Why did the Mayor not discuss the rationing system with the corporators? When and why was the rationing of water withdrawn and why again the Mayor did not discuss it with the corporators? If the water is sufficient now why was the water rationed for the last one-and-half month? How much water was stored in Thumbay dam and AMR dam? Why did the Mayor say last year Rs 1.43 crore was wasted during the water crisis?”
Responding to the question Mayor Kavitha said, “I did not say that Rs 1.43 crore had been wasted in fact, I said last year the MCC had spent Rs 1.43 Crore to dig borewells, repair open wells and for the tankers to provide water to the people of the city.”
Responding to the water rationing system Kavitha said, “On March 19, there was a meeting with the DC regarding the water management. This year to avoid water scarcity we had to take preventive measures and so it was decided to ration the water supply while also monitoring the availability of the water. When we had discussed the issue of water scarcity with the DC he had advised to take precautions and also said that if there was a water crisis this year he would not be held responsible for it. As a preventive measure and to avoid the scarcity of water, we had decided to ration the supply of water. Now the Thumbay dam has 4.98 meters of water the AMR dam has nearly 3.75 meters of water which we believe is enough to be supplied without any rationing. In the month of June, there will be rain so the water we have retained is enough to be supplied uninterrupted.”
Opposition leader Premanand Shetty said, “In the Town project division if anyone wants to get the completion certificate for their houses they need to run from pillar to post. But if brokers come to collect the same they will get the certificates easily.”
Responding to Premanand Shetty, Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, “If anyone wants to build a house and if all their documents are in place permission will be granted within a week. If any officials delay in granting the permission such officers will be held responsible. Even for the birth, death and Rojgar certificates brokers come to apply for them. Any certificate or permit should be handed over to the applicants. Brokers should not be entertained in the Mangalore City Corporation”, warned Mayor Kavitha.
Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir, Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza and others were also present.
