Checkmate! Taluk Level Chess Competition at St Aloysius Higher Primary School
Mangaluru: August 1, 2019 marks a new date in the academic year of 2019 – 20 for our St Aloysius College Higher Primary School for organizing a chess competition at the Taluk level for the Primary and High school students of Mangalore Taluk.
The programme began by escorting the dignitaries to the auditorium by our school band. The dignitaries of the day were the President of the function – Fr Gerald Furtado SJ – our Correspondent, Chief Guest – Asha Nayak – Physical Education Officer of Mangalore North Zone, K Arvind – Vice President of PTA and Philomena Lewis – our Headmistress.
The programme began by invoking Gods blessings through a Hindi prayer song. The welcoming of the guests and the gathering was done by our Headmistress – Philomena Lewis. She also spoke on the history of chess and the advantages of the game followed by the lighting of the lamp. The Chief Guest in her message congratulated our school for organizing the competition and wished good luck to all the participants. Fr Gerald Furtado SJ addressed the gathering and spoke about the game which has to be played in the spirit of sportsmanship. Arvind, in his message, thanked the participants for accepting the invitation and wished them good luck.
Poornima delivered the vote of thanks. Liya D’Souza compered the programme. The formal function was followed by the competition. The Chief Arbiter was Sakshath from Udupi along with Praveen Lobo. The competition was held under the administration of Sakashath. The credit goes to Arun Baptist and Harish for organizing the event. A total of 350 students actively took part in this competition.
