Chikkamagaluru: Pramoda Devi, wife of the royal scion of the Mysuru Wodeyar dynasty, the late Srikanthadatta Wodeyar, arrived at Sringeri on Friday. The visit appeared to be a quiet and low-profile event.
She was received by the Shri Sharada Pitham official Peshkar Shivashanker Bhat. She has camped in the official guest house of the Pitham. She is scheduled to obtain a darshan of Sharadamba deity on Saturday and seek blessings from Shri Bharati Tirtha Swamiji of Sringeri.
Her husband Srikanthadatta was the last of the male successors in the royal lineage and he died issueless. The royal position, although just decorative in nature and only honoured during the Dasara celebrations in Mysuru, has remained vacant since his death over a year ago.
The last Dasara in 2014 was celebrated without the royal representation. No successor has been nominated as yet. There are speculations over one of the nephews of the late Wodeyar. It is widely rumoured that Pramoda has arrived at Sringeri to seek blessings from the Pitham before officially announcing a successor.
