Beijing, March 1 (IANS) An abortion drug, Mifepristone (MIF) can possibly have an anti-tumour effect in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), the media reported on Tuesday.
A research conducted under the Kunming Institute of Zoology in China found that Mifepristone (MIF), a common abortion drug, suppresses growth of TNBC cells by reducing the protein KLF5 that promotes survival of cancer cells, Xinhua news agency reported.
Liu Rong from Kunming Institute of Zoology said MIF suppresses cancer stem cells by causing a micro RNA molecule to suppress KLF5.
“Our findings may provide new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of TNBC,” Liu added.
