Udupi: “Choice for food and right to land, Mowadi Chalo movement will be held on June 12 demanding the extradition of the accused who had assaulted the Koraga community youth for consuming meat”, said President of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti Uday Kumar Tallur. in a press meet held at the Press Club here on June 8.
Addressing the mediapersons Uday Kumar said, “Fringe elements had assaulted three youth belonging to the Koraga community for consuming meat. The meat was cooked during the engagement ceremony at Hosadu, Mowadi, Byndoor. The police later took three youth of the Koraga community into custody while no arrests of the accused belonging to fringe elements were made. Later the police filed a case on the accused who soon absconded and now are out on bail. The accused are still continuing to threaten the Koraga community.
The Central Government’s notification on Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 has demoralized the farmers. The government is pushing its agenda to harass the minorities and Dalits. To educate the masses, the pro Dalit associations together with the Karnataka Komu Souhardha Vedike, Catholic Sabha, Indian Christian Union and other like minded associations will gather in Movadi on June 12 at 10:00 AM near Hosadu and flag off Mowadi Chalo movement. Later a public programme will be held near the Shastri Circle, Kundapur.
The movement demands the extradition of the accused who had assaulted the Koraga community youth in Hosadu. The government should scrap the cases on the Koraga community youth through the cabinet meeting. A special act should be formulated to protect the Dalits from atrocities. Every Dalit family should be given 5 cents land. The minorities, backward classes and Dalit should be protected from the attacks from vigilante groups in the name of cow protection, he added.
