Cholera Scare in Dakshina Kannada District

Mangaluru: A cholera case has been detected in Nellikar village, Moodbidri taluk, Dakshina Kannada district, sparking alarm in the health department. The infection is suspected to have spread from a hotel in Udupi’s Hosmar.

District Health Officer Dr. Thimmayya warned that cholera primarily spreads through contaminated food and water. He emphasized the importance of food quality and hygiene.

Mangalore City Corporation held a special meeting with hotel owners, instructing them to ensure food quality, avoid serving contaminated or stale food, maintain vegetable and fruit quality, wash utensils and plates with hot water, use clean water for cooking and minimize unpreserved food consumption.

The department also stressed regular water tank cleaning, chlorination, and super-chlorination.

Consuming contaminated food can lead to cholera, causing severe diarrhea, dehydration, and even death.”
